Large Munsterlander


    These dogs are said to be originated from the country of Germany. Towards the end of the eighteenth century, the Germans’ interest in bird dogs increased and this brought a large number of these dogs came into the hand of the German hunters. The large munstlander also goes by many other names. One of those many other names is Grosser Munstlander Vorstehhund. These dogs are also a type of bird dog but these dogs have not been around for as long as the other bird dogs. These dogs evolved into what they are now in Munster which is located in Germany. Thus they get their name from that place. These dogs are never confused with the small munsterlander because there are a lot o differences between the two.

    The larger dogs can be easily differentiated from the smaller dogs. As the name suggest, the latter is larger in size. However this is not the only difference. They can be differentiated by their colour as well. The larger dogs are generally black and white in colour while the smaller ones are not. These dogs are multi talented and can be used for many purposes. Some of these many purposes are, hunting, pointing, retrieving and in general are great in doing utility work. These dogs are popular not only in their native country. But they are also gaining a lot of popularity and increasing in number even in the outside countries.

    These dogs are known to be very fearless and also get tired very late only after a lot of work. They can be called tireless. They also have the ability to work in practically all sorts of terrains, smooth or rough. It works well in all sorts of weathers as well. It is quite adaptable. They are also reliable both on water as well as land. These dogs have a very well balanced conformation. This suggests that they also have a very easy, graceful, steady movement and drive. These dogs have a quite broad head. Their head is also a little rounded, giving it an impression of stability and also being very dignified. They have a white colored body with a few black colored patches found here and there on their body.

    These black patches may be either ticked or flecked. If they have a full black coat, then they are not at all desirable. All though very rare and uncommon, they may sometimes have a brown colored coat. They have a broad pair of ears. Their ears have a rounded tip and usually tend to hang very close to their heads. Their teeth should always meet to form a scissor bite. They have a heavily lidded pair of eyes. These eyes are generally dark in color. They have a long coat. Their coats are also generally very dense in nature. Their coat is never curly neither coarse. They tend to have a lot of feathers on some parts of their body, like their feet, ears, their front and their hind legs and also on their tail.
