These dogs are considered to be one of the oldest breed of scent hound dogs that came in to existence. These dogs are said to have originated from the country of France. As it is from France, these dogs also have a French name that they go by, it is, Chien de Franche-Comté. These dogs get their French name from the province of France-comte. The region that formed this province of French-comte now is the border region between the country of France and the country of Switzerland. As these dogs are very ancient, like all the other ancient dogs, their origin and development is not quite clear. It is however known that their existence can be traced back to as old as the sixteen hundreds.
For a lot of years since their coming in to existence, these dogs were mainly owned by monks of the monasteries. These dogs are said to be quite large in size and these large sized dogs are also said to have rather coarse hair on their coat. Like many other dog, it is not the World War 2 that affected these dogs. It was the French revolution. These dogs were said to have kept and owned mostly by the upper class people and thus were more affected by the French revolution compared to the other French dogs. By the time this French revolution broke out, these dogs had almost completely disappeared from the face of earth. Only a handful of 1 or 2 dogs here and there were able to survive the revolution. These dogs were originally were used for the purpose of hunting, especially for the purpose of hunting animals like hare and roe deer. These dogs get their name porcelaine because of their short yet very smooth and incredibly fine hair. These dogs also had the presence of a black mottling on the pink skin; this mottling gave their coat a very sheen and shiny look. This was also another reason why these dogs were called as porcelain. Hen these dogs were looked at from quite afar distance, their coat would actually look like some kind of pale blue colored piece of glass. These dogs are known to be very vigorous in nature. They are also said to be tireless, that is they can work for a long period of time without taking a break and still not be tired and get worn out.
These dogs are not single hunters. These dogs are said to hunt in their pack. However, this is not be mistaken for them being dependant on the other dogs or anything like that, because in reality it is the exact opposite. These dogs in reality are very independent in nature. These dogs are so independent that they do not even bother to wait for their owner to give them any command to start hunting; they would usually hunt on their own. These dogs are quite hard to train as they do not have the eagerness to please their master. These dogs are also known for their extremely melodious voice. These dogs also have a very well balanced temperament and also have a very impressive appearance.
