PORTUGUESE HOUND
Its origin and background is the same as the canary and Iberian hounds. It is bred and selected in Portugal and is spread all around the country, being a much appreciated animal by rabbit and burrow animal hunters.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the PORTUGUESE HOUND
From this breed also rise two varieties told apart by its fur quality: the straight and short fur and the longer fur, rough texture, which is longer in the face forming a beard. The size also originates distinctions that are defined in three varieties; the size considered as medium, is 40 to 45 cm high and weighs an average of 18 kg. From this medium sized, there is a smaller one, which is between 20 and 30 cm high, and another lager one from 55 to 70 cm. The most popular color, common in different varieties, is tawny in diverse intensities. The breed has an almost straight profile, a scarcely defined stop, flat skull, oblique nose and prominent at the tip, ended in a dark nose. The eyes are small, with a color that harmonizes with the fur and a lively and intelligent gaze. The ears have a straight, pointy and triangular shape and are quite mobile.
