    The Puli is a Hungarian breed of dog. These dogs range in size from medium to small. These dogs were originally bred as working dogs. They are good for herding and guarding livestock. They may not be big in size but are very watchful and will not let harm come to their families. These dogs are known for their corded and long coat. These dogs appear to have dread locks. But this is because their coat has very tightly curled hair. This feature makes these dogs resistant to water and their coats waterproof. This dog is usually seen in solid colors. The most common color is black. They are also seen in cream, grey or white; these colors are very rare. The cream colored dogs more often than not have a black mask.

    The Puli is a compact and medium sized dog. These dogs are almost square shape and are not very tall. Their coat which is tightly curled is their distinctive feature. They have very fine bones and a relatively muscular body for their size. Their heads are dome shaped but are still proportionate to the size of their body. The head should have a distinct egg shape in profile built should be almost rounded in shape when seen from the front. They do not have very long tails. Their tails should have a nice tight curl over their back. They have beautiful almond shaped eyes that are usually seen in a very dark color. They have medium sized ears with no distinct shape. The pigment on the ears of the dog should be in a black color. These dogs have a very long coat that can even touch the ground when the dog is fully grown. The coat is usually seen in a solid color of black and various shades of grey.

    The Puli is a very lively dog. They are cheerful and very loyal to their families. They love attention and enjoy human company. They make exceptional family dogs and are very adaptable. They will adjust themselves to any surrounding. They are very easily trained. These dogs are very intelligent and are keen to please. These dogs excel at obedience training. They do exceptionally well in the show ring and at agility tricks. The Puli is not an aggressive animal but is still wary of strangers. They will let anyone know when someone is coming. They are very vocal animals and make good watch dogs. These dogs require calm and patient handling. They should not be left alone with children who have a tendency to tease or be aggressive with the dog.

    These dogs stand at 36-46 cms tall. The males are slightly taller than the females. They weigh anywhere between 9 and 16 kgs. These dogs are very hardy and do not suffer from many health problems. They are suited for any kind of weather. These dogs have a life expectancy of 12 years or more. These dogs need to given special attention fro grooming.
